Why do we get lower back pain?

Lower back pain is often multifactorial, meaning there isn’t usually a single cause.

It often reflects how your body is moving, working, resting, and adapting to the demands of everyday life.

There are usually (but not always) some common contributing factors, such as prolonged periods of sitting, repetitive movements, or physical strain from work, sport, or lifting. Reduced joint mobility and muscle tension can also play a role, as can changes in your usual activity levels or a history of previous injury.

And of course, factors like stress and fatigue may influence how we move our bodies and contribute to muscle tension and discomfort.

From an osteopathic perspective, we take a holistic, whole-body approach. Rather than focusing solely on the area of pain, we consider how different regions of the body may be interacting and contributing to your symptoms. This allows us a better understanding of your condition. It also allows us to give you an individulised treatment plan, including some effective exercises for you to use at home.
