Cranial Osteopathy
Cranial osteopathy is a gentle and yet very effective way of providing treatment to the body.
It’s the palpation of very precise and subtle movements of our tissues. These movements are evident in the whole body but are more readily palpated around the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord) and that’s where it takes it’s name from. Being very gentle in its application cranial osteopathy is applicable to all age groups.
This is why it is the main mode of treatment of babies and toddlers.
Cranial osteopathy is not to be separated from osteopathy and thus even only cranial osteopathy might be used a thorough case history and examination will always take place to ensure that the patient is not in need of other medical attention.
During treatment cranial osteopathy might go unnoticed by the patient or they might feel more relaxed to the extent that they might fall asleep. In other cases the patient may feel minor tensions, or slight aching arising and fading away as well as emotions coming to the surface. In most cases though the patient feels different after getting up.
Cranial osteopathy is a specialised form of osteopathic treatment that focuses on the gentle manipulation of the cranial bones, spine, and other tissues to promote healing and improve overall health.
Here are some potential benefits of cranial osteopathy:
- Relieves musculoskeletal tension: Cranial osteopathy can help release tension and tightness in the muscles, ligaments, and other soft tissues of the head and neck. This can be particularly beneficial for conditions such as headaches, migraines, and jaw disorders.
- Improves circulation and fluid dynamics: By addressing restrictions and imbalances in the cranial and spinal structures, cranial osteopathy can help improve blood flow, lymphatic drainage, and cerebrospinal fluid circulation. This enhanced fluid dynamics can support overall tissue health and promote healing.
- Reduces stress and promotes relaxation: The gentle techniques used in cranial osteopathy can have a calming effect on the nervous system, helping to reduce stress and induce a state of deep relaxation. This can be especially helpful for individuals experiencing anxiety, insomnia, or chronic stress.
- Enhances overall body function: The cranial bones, spine, and other structures of the head and neck are intricately connected to the rest of the body. By addressing dysfunctions in these areas, cranial osteopathy can help optimise overall body function and support the body’s natural healing mechanisms.
- Supports the treatment of various conditions: Cranial osteopathy can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions, including but not limited to migraines, chronic pain, sinus problems, TMJ disorders, infant colic, digestive issues, and postural imbalances. It can also complement other forms of medical or therapeutic treatments.
It’s important to note that individual responses to cranial osteopathy can vary. Some individuals may experience immediate relief and noticeable improvements, while others may require multiple sessions to achieve the desired results.
